Become a Catholic

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, or commonly referred as RCIA, is a faith journey that allow Adults the opportunity to learn more about the Christian faith and prepare them for initiation into the Catholic Church and receiving the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation).

There are a number of different people that this information could apply to:

  • you may have been baptized into the Catholic Church but never received any religious education, and never received the sacraments of First Eucharist or Confirmation.
  • you may have been baptized in another faith and now would like to join the Catholic church.
  • you have never been a part of any religion and now feel the need to belong.

If any of the above statements apply to you, then this process is for you.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – RCIA – is also open to any child over the age of seven who fits into any of the above categories. For children and young adults, the process follows the same format as the one for adults, but is age appropriate.

The process involves weekly sessions to prepare you for the beautiful celebration of the reception of the sacraments on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter).

The RCIA is rich with the possibilities for becoming involved. Because the process involves welcoming people into our faith we like to put our best foot forward and make it a good experience for all involved.

Sponsors are people who travel with the candidates on their journey. They are fully initiated Catholics who share their faith experiences with the candidates. This is a big commitment on the part of the volunteer because the preparation can last a year or longer, and the journey, a lifetime.

Catechists are part of a team of people who do the actual teaching and immediate preparation for the RCIA. This involves less of a time commitment, about once a month, for a few hours from September through to the Easter Vigil.

Please contact the number below if you would like more information about these volunteer opportunities.
