Habitat for Humanity Home Project

Peace of Christ Parish has joined with the Brighton Church Coalition to build a Habitat for Humanity House in the city of Rochester. The coalition includes the following churches:

Edgewood Free Methodist Church
Atonement Lutheran Church
Twelve Corners Presbyterian church
St. Thomas Episcopal Church
Trinity Reformed Church
Baptist Temple
First Baptist Church
Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Ann’s

The cost of building such a house is $65,000. Joining the coalition is a practical way of fulfilling a parish goal of building a Habitat for Humanity home. The coalition needs to provide 6 volunteers each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday during the construction period. No experience is necessary but volunteers must be at least 16 years old. The construction will begin on July 29, 2008 and continue through to November 15, 2008, when it is expected to be finished. The Brighton Church coalition has built 3 Habitat for Humanity homes since 1997 and their experience will help make this project reach a successful conclusion.

There are many opportunities to participate in this project which generally involve a day starting at 9:00AM and concluding at 4:00PM with morning, lunch and afternoon breaks. No one is asked to do more than they want to do and it is a wonderful time to build new friendships. Please contact Pat Callahan (482-7352) or Pete Chesterton (482-1955) for more information about volunteering.
